A Herbalogical Study on the Plants of Compositae in Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
For the purpose of developing Korean herbalogy with plants of Compositae in Korea, the theses and writings on herbalogy from the ancient, modern, and present times, have been thoroughly reviewed and the following conclusion has been made;
1. There were a total of 281 kinds of plant in the Korean Compositae, and of the above mentioned, medicinal plants were 118 in total.
2. The medicinal plants in the Compositae were classified according to the various parts which can be used for medicinal purposes and result are as follows; Herba: 64 kinds Radix: 24 kinds, Flos: 10 kinds, Folium: 7 kinds, Rhizoma: 5 kinds, Fructus: 4 kinds, Semen 2 kinds and Others: 2kinds. Thus it was noticed that a total of 118 kinds of herbalogical name can be used for clinic.
3. The medicinal plants in the Compositae were classified into 11 kinds according to the effects and results are as follows: medicines for clearing up heat: 49 kinds, medicines for resolving phlegm and cough: 12 kinds, medicines for dispelling wind and humidity: 11 kinds, medicines for regulating blood condition: 10 kinds, medicines for removing the exterior symptom-complex: 7 kinds, medicines for causing urination and dispelling excessive body fluid: 5 kinds, medicines for invigorating Yin and Yang: 2 kinds, medicines for antidiarrhea;1kinds,aromatic medicines for dispelling humidity:1kind,medicines for regulating the flow of vital energy and removing obstruction to it: 1 kind, medicines for killing insects: 1 kind, Of these, medicines for clearing up heat is the main kind.
4. nature and flavour of chinese materia medica and attributive channal of these medicines are very complexed, hence that reqires more investigation. Also, and any kinds are many unidentified medicinal parts in the herbalogical aspect, therefore, further intensive studies in this field are needed.
5. However, except in the above described theses and writings, there are many similar plant, so will be added.
Through the study, it was disclosed that the Compositae plants produced in Korea was 281 kinds in total and the number of medicinal kinds was 118 kinds, 42%, in total. It is considered that traditional medicines continue to be fundamentally investigated
